RTQ Series — Rotary Joint for Steam & Thermal Oil

Low-speed rotary joint for steam & thermal oil — dual-spherical graphite seal, 2.0 MPa / 350°C, 50–200 rpm. ISO 9001 quality, 60–80% below Western brands.

Overview

The RTQ series is a patented improvement on conventional Q-type rotary joints, engineered for saturated and superheated steam plus thermal oil service. An integrated guide ring delivers superior concentricity, while the dual-spherical sealing structure uses imported antimony-impregnated graphite sealing rings that tolerate dry running and thermal cycling far better than standard mechanical seals. Springs are imported Grade 631 stainless steel for high-temperature resistance, and the rotor is heat-resistant alloy steel.

Steam service punishes weak seals: water hammer, condensate surges and scale quickly destroy ordinary designs. The RTQ dual-spherical graphite pair self-adjusts under thermal expansion, and the RTQS-G / RTQS-X executions add a rotating internal tube for positive condensate removal from heated rolls. Under proper installation with working steam traps, graphite seals typically last 2–4 years on saturated steam and 3–5 years on thermal oil at 300 °C; seal rebuild kits are stocked for on-machine service.

Selecting an RTQ model takes four parameters: medium, working pressure, temperature and rotary speed. Standard RTQ-D units (DN15–DN65) cover 50–200 rpm up to 2.0 MPa / 350 °C, with R / Rc taper threads to ISO 7-1 and quick-change flanges from DN20; NPT and G threads are available on request — see the model and dimension tables above. Duty below 120 °C with water or coolant? The RTH series is lighter and more economical; above that, RTQ is the correct steam / thermal-oil platform.

Commercially, standard units are priced $50–500 FOB — typically 60–80% below equivalent European and American brands — with volume discounts from 20 units. Standard models ship in 3–15 days after order confirmation with a minimum order of 1 unit; large-volume schedules are confirmed in your quotation. Every unit is produced in our 10,000 m² ISO 9001:2015 plant and supported across 70+ countries.

Frequently Asked Questions

1 Which rotary joint should I specify for a steam application?
For saturated or superheated steam up to 350 °C and 2.0 MPa, the RTQ series is the right choice. It features a dual-spherical graphite seal rated for steam service — unlike standard mechanical seals that lose life rapidly under dry running. If your steam system has water hammer or frequent condensate surges, ask about the scale-resistant version with external spring compensation.
2 RTQ vs RTH — when to use which for steam?
RTH is designed for low-pressure water/coolant and low-pressure steam (≤ 1.6 MPa, ≤ 120 °C). RTQ is the steam / thermal-oil specialist — dual-spherical graphite seal, 350 °C rating, rated to 2.0 MPa. For saturated steam above 120 °C or superheated steam, go with RTQ; for cold/low-temp water and air, RTH is lighter and cheaper.
3 How often do RTQ rotary joint seals need replacement?
Under proper installation and with clean steam (condensate traps working), RTQ graphite seals typically last 2–4 years on saturated steam service and 3–5 years on thermal oil at 300 °C. Replace friction pairs proactively based on operating hours — not after a leak develops. Spare seal kits are stocked for easy on-machine rebuild.
4 Can RTQ replace a Deublin 1009 or Johnson steam rotary union?
Many RTQ units are dimension-compatible drop-in replacements for common Johnson-type steam joints and certain Deublin rotary unions. We confirm interchangeability against your nameplate photo and mounting dimensions within 24 hours. The RTQ series typically outperforms legacy models at 60–80% of the original-OEM price.
5 How should a steam rotary joint be installed to avoid early failure?
Four rules: align the joint with the roll axis (no side loading on the rotor), allow for thermal expansion of the journal, keep steam traps working so condensate does not water-hammer the seal, and use the drain ports — never plug them. Most premature failures we see come from misalignment or failed traps, not from the joint itself.
6 What is the lead time and minimum order for RTQ steam rotary joints?
Standard RTQ-D units ship in 3–15 days after order confirmation with a minimum order of 1 unit — practical for both single-machine repairs and mill-wide standardisation. Large-volume orders may require longer lead times, and the exact schedule is confirmed in your quotation. Seal rebuild kits for RTQ and RTQS are kept in stock.
